Assessment 3

Barnsley 2-0 Middlesbrough Barnsley breezed past Middlesbrough to maintain their unlikely play off push and condemn Boro to a fourth game without a win. In what was an uneventful first half, Middlesbrough had the best chance of the half as Toby Sibbick’s header back to goalkeeper Brad Collins fell short, however George Saville could not capitalise for the away side. The second half was much more eventful, the game sprang into life in the 62 nd minute as an Alex Mowatt corner deceived everyone and ended up in the back of the Boro net. 13 minutes later, the Tykes wrapped up victory after Mowatt’s snapshot effort found it’s way to the head of Carlton Morris who’s header was saved and cleared, only for Callum Brittain to whip in an inch perfect ball for Daryl Dike to net his eighth goal since joining on loan from Orlando in January. Victory for Barnsley leaves them fifth in the table, five points ahead of seventh placed Reading, while defeat for Boro practically ends any chance ...

Audio- Yankees Suck

 This week was all about listening to an audio product. Out of the list of podcasts we were provided I chose to listen to 'Yankees Suck'. This was a podcast I had never heard of before so I thought I would give it a listen. Listening to this podcast was weird, as I never usually listen to anything that isn't football related. What I really like about the podcast is the fact it is quite informal, as they use swearing and slang. It is almost like they are talking to us, the listener. Even though this wasn't something I was particularly interested in (Baseball), I was still very engaged in the podcast, and I think that is down to the way they present the content. The use of music and sound effects were very well used within this piece as well, it all flowed so well together. Also the different interviews and views throughout makes it such a broad podcast, you want to carry on listening and find out more as to why they hate the 'Yankees' so much, this was something ...

 This week was about using our smartphones to take an interesting photo that was possibly newsworthy. I chose to use this photo that I took of Blundell Park, the home of Grimsby Town Football Club. I chose this image because it was taken on a small trip to Cleethorpes and because I don't have any affiliation with Grimsby, it is a neutral photo. I think that this image is newsworthy, as I could easily see it being on a article written about Grimsby Town. The process to get this image was almost instantaneous, all I had to do was open the camera feature on my iPhone and and there you have it, the image was there. I opted against using the zoom feature of the camera, as on a smartphone the quality isn't great when using the zoom feature. I tested this by doing one at a normal length and one zoomed in and you could see the pixilation on the one I zoomed in on.

Twitter

  I always had a good understanding of Twitter, as it is a big social media platform but there is much more you can do on it to use to your advantage which I wasn't aware of. One of the tools I wasn't aware of was Twitter Lists. This allows you to subscribe to a list of users that maybe have the same interest or relevant information you find helpful or just for your own social pleasure. I subscribed to a sports journalism list, as this is a subject I will find not only interesting, but may help me get inspiration for university assignment's etc. Twitter advanced search is also a really good tool, this allows you to search for specific tweets by using things such as certain dates, hashtags or a specific account. The last tool I tried was creating a Twitter moment. A Twitter moment is a way of collecting several tweets to sort of tell a story. This was a very easy project, I gathered relevant tweets, and also added a cover photo for this. Overall I think Twitter is a good too...

Pocket

 Using pocket was new to me, as I had never used the app or had any idea as to what the purpose of it was. The access to this app was pretty straight forward, you could either download it or view it in web browser. At the time I chose to use the web browser version to make sure I got a good understanding as to how to use it, however I have since downloaded the app version as I find it very useful. After finding an article to read, I then used the share icon on my phone and it gave me the option to save it in the pocket app to carry on reading later. This is a useful piece of technology because you won't always be available to read the article right there and then, for example as a football broadcaster you may be looking at stats for a particular game and may want to save them to view later on, this is where the pocket app would come in to save it which is very easy to do. The process of doing this was interesting, as I had never really done it before. The first thing I did was click the 'Create' icon and the 'Upload video'.  After this, Youtube prompted me to select files to upload. I had a video ready to hand and sent it to my laptop ready to upload.  After I had selected the file I was uploading, I was then asked to give it a title name and a description for the video.  This was most of the process done, the last thing before publishing was setting the content as to whether I wanted it to be public or not.  This was the process complete and my video was published. Facebook Live

Using Facebook live was an interesting experience. I can understand why it is such an important tool and very easy and accessible. For example, as a live broadcaster at a football game it would be very easy and straight forward to sum up the game via Facebook live, before they then write a whole report. Reporters would be able to use this tool to give more pre match and post match analysis of the game to keep their audience engaged on social platforms. This would be a tool that is right with them whether they are at the game or at home so the fact it is so easy to gain access means it wouldn't be a burden so the extra information the viewers receive is a bonus. During my time of experimenting with Facebook live I find that there are many features to it, such as choosing who can see the video which I think is a good feature, as you will be aiming to reach a specific audience and you can choose who by changing the settings.
